Previous Queensland

The first flag of Queensland, in 1870, was a British Blue Ensign defaced with a profile portrait of Queen Victoria after whom the colony was named. In 1876 a new badge, depicting a light blue Maltese cross with an Imperial Crown in the centre of the cross, all on a white disc, was adopted. The design of the Royal Crown altered in 1953 after Queen Elizabeth II adopted the St Edwards Crown upon her Coronation in 1952.
