Paphos, the south-west of Cyprus

Mosaic floor, Chrysopolitissa basilica

The mosaic floor and columns of the 4th century Christian Chrysopolitissa basilica, the largest Early Byzantine basilica on the island, ultimately destroyed during Arab raids in 653. On its right is the smaller Panagia Chrysopolitissa church, built in the 13th century and following the Turkish invasion of 1570, it became the Byzantine Cathedral of Kato (Lower) Paphos.
