Weaving, making paper umbrellas, making silver jewellery and rolling cheroots, cylindrical cigars with both ends clipped during manufacture: these are examples of cottage industry in villages around Inle Lake, Nyaungshwe Township of Taunggyi District in the south west of Shan State. The first weavers are members of the Padaung (Kayan Lahwi) people, who wear coils that are placed around the neck, appearing to lengthen it.
