The Mandalay Marionettes Theatre offers an hour-long performance in a small theatre. Five traditional musicians, on the floor before a small stage, play drums and the “Hneh”, a kind of oboe. During a musical prelude, a “Saung”, a traditional harp with a boat-shaped hollow base and sixteen strings is played, followed by different puppeteer performances: a medium, paying respect to the “Nats”, guardian spirits, offering coconut and bananas; Zaw-Gyi, an alchemist clad in red, with a magic stick, dancing with a magic stick; an old bachelor and performing a humorous romance dance to the sound of four musicians; a girl dancing, pretending she is controlled by the puppeteer; and a Prince, bringing his love to the palace to present her to his parents, with two clowns, who dance and make jokes - performed by the best puppeteers and the climax of the performance.
