Previous Desert Ceremonies from Central Australia
Ceremonial wooden "kurdiji" (shields) and women's dancing sticks with decorations relating to "owl" dreaming (left) and "ngarlu" or sugarbag dreaming. These were prepared for a "Ngajakula" or "Kurangarra" ceremony of the Warlpiri Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory. Designs are painted or stuck on with "wamurlu", wild cotton, dyed with red ochre.
