Aboriginal Children from the Northern Territory

Childhood in traditional Aboriginal communities is a time of learning and play, as everywhere else in the world. It is a safe place to grow up, with plenty of fresh air, nature to explore, small rivers and "billabongs" (small lakes) to swim in and bush foods to taste.

There is also school, where both their own languages and English are taught and, although "disco" now seems an inevitable part of life in Aboriginal communities, the traditional dances are still done and children are decorated for ceremonies and for the "fun" corroborrees that are part of life, as they have been forever.
