Previous Aboriginal Initiation Ceremonies from the Top End of Australia
Two boys sit on the shoulders of men during the "Djapi" initiation ceremony that will culminate in their circumcision in Numbulwar, an Aboriginal community on the western Gulf of Carpentaria. Here they are made to flap their arms, imitating the "brolga" a large water bird during the song involving brolga dreaming.
