Northern Territory

Aboriginal Children from the Northern Territory

Friendly Aboriginal youngsters from traditional communities in the Northern Territory. The Tiwi children are from Bathurst Island, formerly a Catholic mission, where the children were painted for a school performance of "The Stations of the Cross": Tiwi style. The happy Yanyuwa baby girl is from Borroloola, near the Gulf.

The Warlpiri and Arrarnta are desert peoples with strong cultures, although the Arrarnta boy comes from Hermannsburg, formerly a Lutheran mission; still, traditional culture and languages remain strong here too.
