Previous Ceremonies of the Tiwi, Northern Territory
A Tiwi elder, decorated for a "Pukumani" or funerary ceremony in Pirlangimpi (Pularumpi), on Melville Island. He wears white mourning paint and has a "tokwayinga", a ritual object, hanging around his neck; during dancing he will often wear that in his mouth.
