The Alpet Shqiptare, the Albanian Alps

Bajram Curri mural

Bajram Curri took a leading role in the late 19th century nationalist movements. He fought against the Greeks in 1917, defeated insurgents planning a Pro-Serbian coup and fought the Italian occupation. He was gunned down by King Zog's police. A mural, from the Communist days, is on a building in the town that now bears his name.
