Albania's National Hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, became leader of the League of Lezhë, a confederation of all Albanian Principalities resisting Ottoman rule. He adopted his family's Coat of Arms as basis of the flag, a double-headed eagle on a red field.
