Aboriginal Ceremonies from the Tiwi Islands

Funerary ceremony

A Tiwi man sings and dances during a Pukumani funerary ceremony in Pularumpi (Pirlingimpi), on Melville Island in the Tiwi islands. The carved and painted “Pukumani poles” are commissioned by the family of the deceased and used to be placed around the grave.
