Northern, Central and Southern Arnhem Land

Drinking kava

Men drinking kava on the beach in Milingimbi, an Aboriginal community on the island with the same name off the north coast of Arnhem Land. Kava, a drink made from the pounded roots of a pepper plant (Piper Methysticum) originated from Fiji and has become a major health problem in Arnhem Land communities.
