Aboriginal Arts and Crafts from Central Australia

Shields,

Wooden “kurdiji” (wooden shields) painted with the “Wiringarri” (owl) dreaming designs during a “Ngajakula” or “Kurangarra” ceremony in Lajamanu, a Warlpiri Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory. Designs are painted or stuck on with “wamurlu” wild cotton, dyed with red ochre.
