Along the Flinders Highway, Queensland

Kalkadunga memorial

A memorial honouring the Kalkadunga (Kalkadoon) tribe, which resisted the invasion by the whites, was a bicentennial tribute by the patron of the Mitakoodi Association, Cloncurry and opened on 11 September 1988, along the Flinders Highway near Mount Isa. Unfortunately thoughtless vandals have shot at the Aboriginal head and pried away two of the commemorative plaques.
