Zagreb, capital of Croatia

Kula Lotrščak

The Lotrščak Tower (Kula Lotrščak), a fortified tower dating to the 13th century, was built to guard the southern gate of the town wall of Gradec or Gornji grad (Upper Town of Zagreb). In the 19th century, a fourth floor and windows were added and a cannon was placed on the top floor. Since 1 January 1877, it has been fired to mark midday to give the sign for exact noon for the bell-ringers of the city’s churches.
