Basílica San Francisco de Asis

Plaza de San Francisco de Asís, with the Basilica Menor de San Francisco de Asis (Saint Francis of Assisi), built in 1580–91 as the home of the Franciscan community, and altered in a baroque style in 1730. Attached to the Basilica is a 42 metre bell tower, that originally had a statue of St. Francis of Assisi on the top, but was destroyed by a cyclone in 1846. A statue of Fray Junípero Serra with a Juaneño Indian boy stands next to the basilica.
