Church of Saint Lazarus, Larnaca

The Church of Saint Lazarus (Ierós Naós Agíou Lazárou), an autocephalous Greek Orthodox Church in Larnaca. It is named for the New Testament figure Lazarus who, it is claimed, Jesus raised from the dead. In Orthodox tradition, Lazarus was forced to flee Judea and came to Cyprus, became the first Bishop of Kition (Larnaca), lived for thirty more years and was buried here for the second and last time. This church was built over the reputed (second) tomb of Lazarus, found here in 890.
