Lefkoşa, the Turkish part of Nicosia

Venetian Column, North Nicosia

The Venetian Column on Sarayönü (Atatürk Meydanı), a square in the centre of the Turkish part of the city that was the administrative centre of the island for centuries. The granite column was transported from the temple of Zeus at Salamis and brought to Nicosia in 1550. It was placed here in 1915 and engraved at its base with those dates.
