Gazimağusa (Famagusta), a walled city on the east coast

Agios Ioannis Church, Famagusta

View to the Agios Ioannis Church in Varosha from the Venetian city walls. It was for a while in the only part of Varosha which the public was allowed to visit. Built in 1960, it was abandoned and left derelict in 1974. After renovation, it was opened as an icon museum in 1994 and now has around 120 icons on view.
