Gazimağusa (Famagusta), a walled city on the east coast

Carmelites church, Martinengo Bastion

The church dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, built in the 14th century by Carmelites who first came to Cyprus in 1226. It is constructed in Gothic style, with Italianate frescoes on the inner wall. Behind it is the Saint Mary Armenian church, probably built in the 14th century by Armenian refugees.
