Lion of St Mark, Othello Castle

A relief of the Lion of St Mark engraved above Othello Castle's main entrance. The Lion of Saint Mark represents the evangelist St Mark, pictured in the form of a winged lion holding a Bible, the symbol of the city of Venice and formerly of the Republic of Venice. Underneath is the name of the Venetian Captain Nicolao Foscarino who reconstructed the castle in pure Italian Renaissance style in 1492.
