Salamis, an ancient Greek city-state

St. Epiphanios Basilica, Salamis

The St. Epiphanios Basilica in Salamis, once the largest basilica in Cyprus, built during the episcopacy of Epiphanios (386–403 CE), whose tomb still lies encased in marble in front of the southern apse. It was destroyed during Arab raids in the 7th century. It consisted of a nave separated from its aisles by two rows of 14 columns with Corinthian capitals; it ended with a triple-arched semicircular apse with seats for the bishop and clergy.
