Salamis, an ancient Greek city-state

Temple of Zeus, Salamis

The ruins of the Roman temple, built on an earlier Hellenistic one devoted to Zeus. The shrine had the right to grant asylum, and this was confirmed by Augustus in 22 BCE. Not much remains; the stones having long been appropriated for other building projects.
