Ethiopian Empire, 19th Century

Ethiopian Empire, 19th Century

The colours red, yellow and green have carried special importance since at least the early 17th century, as it was a symbol of the Ethiopian Empire's Solomonic dynasty and having a connection to the Holy Trinity. The flag evolved from three coloured pennants Ethiopia flew in the 19th century and hence had red originally on top.
