Lalibela and its rock-hewn churches

Bete Maryam church

The outside wall and windows of the Bete Maryam (St. Mary's) church, possibly the oldest of the churches and the most popular among pilgrims, because of the veneration of the Virgin Mary in Ethiopia. It is unique in that it has a projecting porch.
