Republic of Haiti, 1964

Republic of Haiti, 1964

Dr. François Duvalier (“Papa Doc”) became President of Haiti in 1957. In 1964 he made himself President for Life and on 25 May 1964 the black and red flag of Dessalines was restored and officially readopted on 21 June 1964 (in proportions 1:2). The State Flag featured the coat of arms but now the flags on it also changed to vertically divided black and red ones and no freedom symbols: the Phrygian Liberty cap above the palm tree and the broken chain on the lawn are omitted.
