Brutus and Bacchus

A bust of Brutus, the Roman politician who lived from 85-42 BCE and is best known for his murder of Caesar, sculpted in 1538 and the marble sculpture of Bacchus (1497) depicting the Roman god of wine, being drunk. Sitting behind him is a faun, a rustic forest god or place-spirit of Roman mythology, half human - half goat, eating a bunch of grapes slipping out of Bacchus's left hand. Both are by Michelangelo and displayed in the Bargello Museum, Florence.
