Arch of Septimius Severius

This triumphal arch, situated between the Rostra and the Curia, encloses the square of the Roman Forum on the north east and was built in 203 CE to celebrate Septimius Severus' two Parthian campaigns of 195 and 197. Built of travertine and brick faced with marble, it is about 20 metres high, 25 metres deep and over 11 metres deep. On the front are four columns standing on tall plinths decorated with reliefs of Roman soldiers and Parthian prisoners.
