Palermo, the capital city of Sicily

Adam and Eve mosaic

Byzantine mosaic depicting Adam and Eve expelled from Paradise on a wall in the magnificent 12th century Norman cathedral, built for King William II in Monreale, about 8 kilometres south-west of Palermo. Almost the whole interior surface of the walls, including soffits and jambs of all the arches, is covered with minute mosaic-pictures in bright colours on a golden background.
