Piazza del Campo, Siena

The beautiful Piazza del Campo in the historical town of Siena, Tuscany is regarded as one of Europe's greatest medieval squares. Various palazzi signorili surround the shell-shaped piazza. The square, with its buildings in “burnt siena”, various shades of reddish-browns, is the scene of the “Palio”, a yearly medieval festival featuring a bareback horse race around the square.
