Siena, Toscana’s gem

Duomo interior

The spectacular interior of Siena Duomo, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (Most Holy Mary of Assumption), looking east to the choir. It is dominated by black-and-white striped pillars: black and white are the colours of the civic coat of arms of Siena, possibly referring to the black and white horses of the legendary city's founders, Senius and Aschius.
