The “turtle ship”

A replica of a Geobukseon, “turtle ship”, as was used by the Joseon Dynasty from the early 15th century up until the 19th century, at the War Memorial Museum. Admiral Yi Sun-sin is credited with designing the ship with its protective shell-like covering, used to great effect in the war against Japanese naval forces that supported Toyotomi Hideyoshi's attempts to conquer Korea from 1592-1598.
