Kosovo under UN administration, 1999

On 10 June 1999 the United Nations Security Council passed a Resolution which placed Kosovo under 'United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo' (UNMIK) that lasted until Kosovo's declaration of independence in 2008. During this time the flag of the United Nations was used. This flag, adopted on 7 December 1946, shows the emblem of the UN in white on a light blue background: a map of the world centred on the North Pole, surrounded by olive tree branches, a symbol for peace; the map represents all people and countries of the world.
