The Serbian Monasteries

Entrance to Visoki Dečani

Entrance to Visoki Dečani, situated in the picturesque valley of the Bistrica (Lumbardhi) river and surrounded by the mountains and forests of the Prokletije mountain range. It is the largest and best preserved Serbian medieval monastery. In 1990 it was declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance and in 2006 it was added to the List of World Heritage in Danger, due to the risk of attacks by ethnic-Albanians after the war.
