State of Yap, 1981

State of Yap, 1981

On 30 May 1980 a flag, designed by John Gilinung was adopted for Yap State and first hoisted on 1 March 1981. On a blue field, in the centre in a white ring is the stylised silhouette of an outrigger canoe with sail hoisted. The circle symbolises a “Raay”, the traditional stone money disk. In the centre is a five-pointed star.
