The stone phallus

A young boy sits on the 60 centimetre long stone phallus, about 2 kilometres south east of Erdene Zuu Monastery; it is assumed it was placed by a senior Erdene Zuu monk to stop monks fraternising with local women. It has silk “khadag”, ceremonial silk scarves tied around it when a wish has been made: it has become a place of pilgrimage for local people wishing to have children, although for this boy it was more for fun! The fence was put around it to prevent it being stolen.
