Western Samoa Coat of Arms 1962

Western Samoa Coat of Arms 1962

Western Samoa became an independent nation on 1 January 1962 and on 1 June of that year it made a change to its Coat of Arms. The background grid is now red and, with the olive wreath, again recalls the United Nations badge. A shield shield depics the stars of the Southern Cross on a blue background and a green coconut palm with a green ocean. It is surmounted by a Christian cross and at the bottom is a scroll with the motto, in red, “Fa’avae i Le Atua Samoa”, “Samoa is founded on God”.
