The iNcwala or First Fruits Ceremony in 1970

iNcwala climax

Daughters of the King, the “bantfwabenkosi”, dance in front of the warrior regiments in the Royal “sibaya” or cattle byre, at the end of the main day of the iNcwala ceremony. Unmarried girls are dressed in “indlamu” short bead skirts and married women wear black “sidvwaba” skirts and brightly coloured “emahiya”. Hundreds of men have now joined the slow ancient dance in their iNcwala finery.
