Around Dili: the West of Timor-Leste

The “Australian Flag House”, the house where the “Balibo Five”, journalists who were killed by the Indonesian army when they invaded in 1975. In a futile attempt to escape this fate they had painted an Australian flag on the wall. In 2003 the house was restored as a community centre, financed by the state of Victoria; it was attempted to preserve the painted flag by a plate of glass; (it is very faint). In the foreground a decaying Indonesian “Integrasi” monument.
