Palatine Chapel mosaics

Beautiful Byzantine mosaics in the Palatine Chapel, built during the 12th century Norman king Roger II's reign in Palermo. The mosaics are noted for subtle modulations of colour and luminance. The oldest presumably date from the 1140s, inscribed in Greek and attributed to Byzantine artists; later mosaics, dated to the 1160s or the 1170s, feature Latin inscriptions.
