Nan Madol from the sea

View from the sea to Nan Madol, now an archaeological site in the Madolenihmw district, on the eastern shore of Pohnpei. It was a city, constructed in a lagoon, consisting of a series of small artificial islands linked by a network of canals. Nan Madol was the capital of the Saudeleur Dynasty, which united Pohnpei's estimated 25,000 people until about 1628.
