Cristo Rei of Dili

Cristo Rei of Dili, the statue of Christ, designed by Mochamad Syailillah and produced in Indonesia. It stands on a globe on which can be reached by climbing some 597 steps. It was unveiled by Soeharto in 1988 and the monument (statue, globe and pedestal) is 27 metres high, a reference to the integration of East Timor as the 27th province of Indonesia at that time.
