CNRT, 1999

CNRT, 1999

The CNRT (Conselho Nacional de Resistência Timorense), an assemblage of nearly all Timorese political groups hoisted its new flag in Dili on 15 August 1999 two weeks before the independence referendum. The flag was virtually the same as that of FALINTIL (Forças Armadas da Libertação Nacional de Timor-Leste), the military wing of the FRETILIN party that had been adopted as a temporary flag of East-Timor in April 1998; instead of “FALENTIL” it had “CNRT” on its white stripe. The motto on the scroll under the shield reads “PATRIA POVO” (Fatherland, People).
