Edirne, the second major capital of the Ottomans

Interior, Selimiye Camii

Interior of the Selimiye Mosque, with its elaboratively carved Minbar, the pulpit from where the imam delivers the Friday sermon and at left the Muezzin mahfili, the raised platform, where the muezzin stands to give responses during the imam’s sermon during Friday services. The mosque was commissioned by Sultan Selim II and a masterpiece, built by architect Mimar Sinan between 1569 and 1575.
